Who Are Macmillan Cancer Support ?

A young man named Douglas Macmillan founded the 'Society for the Prevention and Relief of Cancer' in 1911 after watching his father die of cancer. Douglas was horrified not only by the pain suffered by his father, but also at the lack of support for cancer sufferers and their families.

Douglas’s dream was to build an organisation that would provide information, nursing homes and home care nurses to all cancer patients either without charge or at very low cost.

Today, almost 100 years after Douglas Macmillan began to turn his dream into reality, his charity has more than 3,500 nurses, doctors, radiographers, dietitians, occupational therapists and many other cancer care specialists and volunteers.

The cost of funding a Macmillan Nurse for three years is more than £140 000. Every penny that you help us raise goes directly to provide real help for cancer patients. Please help us to help Macmillan to help a cancer sufferer. Donate through our Justgiving page.
